Background

We have worked with Fugro on a number of projects and this time they engaged us to overhaul their Microsoft Word and PowerPoint templates, updating them for Office 365 functionality and ensuring they worked seamlessly in multiple languages and Office Online. With a workforce of over 10,000 people globally, Fugro required a comprehensive PowerPoint template as well as two core Word templates — a Technical Report and a Commercial Proposal template — to simplify and standardise documentation across the organisation. Additionally, Fugro requested custom Word and PowerPoint ribbons with macros and styling features to streamline their document and presentation creation process.

What we did

We designed and developed a flexible, comprehensive PowerPoint template that allowed for a multitude of layouts and purposes, as well as two robust master templates for Word, designed to cater to Fugro’s wide-ranging user base. The Technical Report Template focused on readability and data presentation, with structured layouts, clear headers, and automated tables for technical reports. The Commercial Proposal Template was eye-catching and designed to create an impact. Integrated elements included colour-coded headers, call-out boxes, and custom table styles for a professional, visually appealing layout.

Template Functionalities and Custom Ribbons across both Word and PowerPoint:

Automated Content and Styling

‍All templates included automated table of contents, page numbering, and styling functionalities to maintain brand consistency.

Custom Ribbons

‍A Fugro-specific custom ribbon in Word and PowerPoint for streamlined and automated document and presentation population, formatting and production.

Multi-Language Compatibility

‍Templates and ribbon functions were adaptable for non-English versions of Office 365 and designed for use in Word Online.

The result

These templates were successfully rolled out to Fugro’s global workforce, providing a standard format that met both technical and commercial needs while enhancing document uniformity and ease of use across teams. The inclusion of a custom ribbon in both Word and PowerPoint made functionality accessible for all team members, regardless of skill level, ensuring high-quality, branded documents were consistently produced across the organisation.
