Standing Up to Cyberbullying – An Interactive Video For Australian Classrooms

Background

The Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner (ACMA) provides critical resources to support Australian children facing cyberbullying and educational materials for their schools and parents. ACMA sought an engaging, teacher-led video activity to replace their existing hour-long computer programme. The goal was to create a simple, user-friendly experience that allowed teachers to guide students aged 9–12 in understanding cyberbullying and the role of bystanders.

What we did

We developed an anti-cyberbullying video that transformed the Cybersmart Hero program into an accessible, impactful learning tool. Our work included character illustration, animation, soundtrack production, voice-overs, and closed captioning.

Illustration

We designed characters and scenarios to resonate with Australian children aged 9–12, reflecting a multicultural society and adhering to the narrative provided by ACMA.

Voice Over and Audio

We organised music, sound effects, and professionally recorded voice-overs to bring the storyline to life, ensuring multiple roles were distinct and engaging.

Motiongraphic production

The video blended all elements, including animations, captions, and scripted pauses, to foster classroom discussions about cyberbullying and bystander responsibilities.

The result

The final video empowers teachers to lead meaningful conversations about cyberbullying with their students. It offers flexibility, allowing sessions to be conducted at times that suit classroom schedules and resources.

Accessible on ACMA’s website, the video can be shown on electronic whiteboards, projected on screens, or used individually on devices. By enabling educators to guide discussions, the video helps create a safer, more informed environment for young Australians to understand and combat cyberbullying.
